A good player can accomplish much with very little, in other words can use inefficient skills/builds and still get the job done.

A bad player will fail even with good skills/builds.

A good person will remember this is just a game and not get overly upset if he fails a mission/quest.

A bad person will get mad, mostly at eveyone else but themselves, if they fail a mission/quest/PvP/ect...

A bad player is someone who is not a good player.

Now create a thread on what is a good player.

Difficult to define with regards to Guild Wars, but generally a bad video game player will meet one or more of the following criteria: Poor understanding of a game's mechanics (factoring in experience), poor reflexes, poor timing, poor prioritization, poor gaming instincts.

It's a bit easier to judge yourself as a player if you're an avid gamer in general. I mean if you grew up with games and generally succeed at an above average level in most games you devote yourself to, given enough practice with Guild Wars it's a fair assumption that you will learn to play it at a respectable level. That doesn't mean GW players who don't have extensive gaming experience are necessarily at a disadvantage, as I've played with some great players who haven't gamed a lot outside of GW. But generally if you're bad at video games in general, it shouldn't come as a shock to you if you're not the best GW player ever.

Some types of games don't follow this rule, as they may depend on strategy not really inherent to pure reflexes and instinct. For example, it's not a given that a player who is great at Street Fighter will be equally as adept at playing Starcraft. But I think Guild Wars incorporates aspects from many gaming genres, so both Starcraft and Street Fighter gurus can find some kind of niche in Guild Wars.

Time and practice are also significant factors, and I'm sure there are many more I haven't mentioned. So yeah, it's not easy to define a bad player with respect to GW. It doesn't help that GW has piss poor statistics which don't really reflect an individual player's core gameplay (lol moral chart). It's much easier to define a bad player in an FPS or RTS because stats play a huge part. All you can really do in GW is observe and follow your intuition in judging a player.

Example of bad player:
The R/N in Tahnakai Temple mission PUG I joined a few months back who called himself "pr0" and said "I'll do the pulling" - then proceeded to run into mobs, cast Life Siphon, then stand in place firing his bow. Once an enemy died he raised a minion - level 8 or 9 or so. He never called targets, and failed to target enemy healers. After causing a party wipe by pulling too many mobs at once he then bitched about it and /ragequit. The rest of us restarted the mission without him (and got Masters lol). That guy pretty much demonstrated all the traits of a bad PvE player - negative attitude, blamed others, claimed skill he lacked, bad build, bad skill usage, etc.

Someone who continues to play like that example and refuses to learn/improve is what I'd call a n00b.

a bad player is one that doesn't know how to have fun and takes the game too seriously, whereas a good one still remembers its a game and enjoys himself while allowing those around him/her to enjoy themselves in a similar manner

Once you learn it doesn't matter what other people think about you then you become a good player. Overcoming peer pressure or elitist pressure or think they know it all pressure are the greatest bad player experiences you will encounter. Just ignore them. <grin>

Thus: A player calling another player a bad player for calling anyone else a bad player is him/herself a bad player an on an on. Which means everyone who posts in this thread is a bad player and shouldn't care what other people think about it. <grin>

Being ignorant is not a good thing. You're just letting the person continue being an ass. You're doing nothing to improve the situation. No one will look at you for being anything, because you do nothing. What good is that when you're aiming to be a good player?

Ya, you will encounter such instances where people think that they are better than you with a 5 second assessment. Tell them off, it's that simple. If they give you more slack, then you tell them off some more. If they put you on ignore, then you come out on top. It's better to stand up to people than to let them carry on and piss off more people.

Signs of a bad player in PvE:

1. A player who says "Kick the ____" when they join a party.
2. A player who says "ping skill bar" but won't ping their own.
3. A player who uses a skill bar that's designed for another profession (No MM or healing Elementalists, please!)
4. A. player who insists on cookie cutter builds (It's OK to replace a B/P ranger with an ele in Tombs. It really is)
5. A player who insists that their way is the only way to do something.
6. A player who doesn't have the patience to watch and learn patrol routes when entering unfamiliar territory.
7. A player who sees a chest and leaves his party in the middle of a battle to go get it. (The damn thing's not going anywhere, people!)
8. A player who tries to leech their way through things.
9. A player who tries pulling with anything other than a longbow (generally speaking, here). Why not use the weapon with the longest range and has the best chance of success?
10. A player who thinks monks have infinite healing capabilities.
11. A player who insists they know what they're talking about when they clearly don't.
12. The jerks who cap their elite skill and leave during a mission/quest. They were the first major blow to PUGs, the scum-bags.

Signs of a bad player in ABs:

1. A player who says "ping skill bar" but won't ping their own.
2. A melee character that keeps swinging away when they've got empathy on them. (Cyclone Axe+Triple Chop + Empathy = Dead Wammo!)
3. A player who decides that he can solo the mob.
4. A player that doesn't get with their group at the beginning of the match.
5. A party leader that doesn't direct his/her team at the beginning of a match.
6. Leechers.
7. A player who calls the person who just killed them a noob.
8. A player that doesn't grasp the concept of capping shrines.
9. A player who tries to get back to their group and doesn't take the time to find the closest allies to join up with after rezzing.
10. Trash talkers.

Someone that uses prot-less monks
Someone that thinks warriors suck at killing
Someone that thinks paragons suck at GW
Someone that thinks eles, Barragers and SS necros are the only things capable of killing in GW
Someone that uses tank 'n' spank
Someone that uses Ursan outside of that mission

If you are part of any of those then I think (know) you're a bad player

Bad players......good God, don't get me started. Well, now that I've started....

First of all, this Game is Holy and bad players deserve to go to Hell. A bad player is anyone who uses a bad build or who doesn't know the language of Guild Wars. This includes new players who have no way of knowing these things. In a Game this important and holy, there is no excuse for not knowing all about it ahead of time. People who make mistakes in the game are also bad players and shouldn't be allowed to log on (in fact, they should be tracked down in real life, and "disciplined", if you catch my drift). Video games are the most important thing there is and I brook little irreverence where they are concerned. You mess up in an instance and you deserve to (unspeakable). You have obligations like kids, wife, job, family, whatever....? To hell with them. The Game is more important.
